Hi Tarifans 😉,

Although the sudden heat is taking over Andalusia and the thermometers are melting, events are happening one after the other this week! Bring out the hats and sunscreen, because this weather invites us to slow down and stroll with our feet in the water... but not only that!

Without further ado, here comes the 20th edition of the African Film Festival (FCAT) which will take place from 28 April to 7 May this year. The opening with the movie “Under the Figs” (“Entre las Higueras”), by Tunisian director Erige Sehiri, promises to be captivating. The double screening of the film onBoth sides of the Strait of Gibraltar on the opening day adds a special dimension to this event.

The FCAT is a prestigious film festival that highlights African cinemas and their creators. The screening of “Under the Figs” on both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar highlights the importance of cultural and artistic connectivity between the two shores, highlighting the diversity and richness of African cinema.

It should also be noted that “Under the Figs” won The Bayard d'Or for best film at the last FIFF (Fribourg International Film Festival), which is a significant recognition.

The film explores intimate themes such as the freedom of speech, poetry, and young people's questions about the future and opportunities. Although presented in the form of fiction, the film offers an authentic look at life in rural Tunisia, with often improvised dialogues and a bold, fair and uncompromising voice.

We strongly encourage you to participate in this 20th edition of the African Film Festival (FCAT) in Tarifa. It is a unique opportunity to discover quality African films and to enrich your cinematographic experience as a spectator.

Another cool event not to be missed if you are in Tarifa soon: The young Tarifenos, Francisco Miguel López Bravo, will open the doors to the Andalusian patio of his house at number 3 Calle Azogue so that anyone who wishes can visit the “Cruz de Mayo” for which this young and talented creator of nurseries is happening again this year.

Visits will take place from Friday, April 28 to Sunday, May 14, from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. without interruption.

And a last one for the route, which concerns Andalusia but not directly Tarifa: a high speed train (TGV) connecting Madrid to Andalusia for only 7 euros! Renfe's new low-cost service, called AVLO, is being previewed in the Andalusian region. Starting this month of June, two new destinations are added from the Spanish capital: Seville and Malaga, thus joining other major cities such as Barcelona or Valencia.

AVLO rates and schedules are very competitive. In total, 17,000 tickets are offered at a base price of 7 euros per trip made between June 1 and December 30. Initially, the service will include two daily trains between Seville and Madrid, as well as Malaga and Madrid, with their respective round trips.

It is obvious that the Spanish railway company seeks to offer more facilities to travelers, and if this can at the same time relieve traffic on the roads, that's just a bonus!

That will be all for today, and it's already not that bad! We'll see you next week, until then, happy May 1st everyone, be well and don't hesitate to let us know if you have any news or events to share on your side!

I almost forgot... last but not least... this weekend in Tarifa, a small group of artists from Tarifa took the initiative to set up a small ephemeral market to show their work and thus create a community. It will take place on Saturday, May 6, all morning in the upper part of the Tarifa Casino. Do not miss it!

Good vibes only!
