The warm, elegant interior of the Atxa restaurant in Tarifa, with beautifully laid tables and soft lighting.
Ideally situated out of sight, in a small alleyway typical of the old town, Atxa has that little "je ne sais quoi" that makes it so different!

Atxa

Nestled in an historic house dating back to 1868, Atxa provides a unique atmosphere where the old and the modern harmoniously converge.

The original architecture of the house has been respectfully preserved, highlighting period features such as vaulted ceilings, columns and moldings, which lend the restaurant an atmosphere of authenticity. At the same time, contemporary elements have been added to bring a touch of modernity to the whole, creating a subtle marriage between past and present.

When you walk through the restaurant's doors, you're transported to a world of exquisite flavors and culinary creativity. The menu offers innovative cuisine, featuring top-quality ingredients carefully selected for their unique flavors.

The vegetables used at Atxa are local and in season. Their preparation over a green oak wood fire gives them a special, delicious flavor, accentuated by the delicate smoke that emanates from them. Since 2022, Atxa has also been using vegetables from its own small kitchen garden!

Dishes are prepared with technical mastery and obvious passion, offering an unforgettable taste experience with every bite. To accompany your meal, the cellar is not to be outdone, brimming with treasures from small producers, both national and international. Their contribution adds a unique touch to the selection.

We were delighted with the "steak tartare de vaca retinta" and the atun tartare as starters... The portions were generous and delicious! Next, the "calamar txiki brasa" and "lomo de atun" left us speechless: what a delicacy on the palate! Despite our already satisfied appetites, we (especially her 😉 ) succumbed to gluttony by sharing an incredible dessert: "fresas, fruta de pasion, algodon de azucar y helado de nata". This delicious passion fruit coulis over strawberries topped with a cloud of cotton candy was simply divine!

Laura and Arturo have been leading Atxa since July 2021. For many years, they gained solid experience working alongside Martín Berasategui Olazábal, a renowned Basque-Spanish chef who has been awarded multiple Michelin stars.

With these two enthusiasts, nothing is left to chance! Just admire Laura's seriousness and precision as she puts the finishing touches to your dish 😉

With a strong inclination to preserve the essentials and their roots, Laura and Arturo are committed to offering authentic cuisine that respects tradition. Their approach is characterized by a resolutely youthful and refreshing style, while maintaining fidelity to the culinary heritage.

It's also worth mentioning that, as Laura is celiac, 98% of the dishes on offer are gluten-free, which is particularly reassuring for people suffering from the same condition. They can therefore have complete confidence in the preparations offered to them.

Atxa's warm, welcoming atmosphere, combined with attentive, professional service, makes every visit a special experience in its own right.

And for those wondering about the meaning of Atxa, it's actually a nice nickname given to girls in Extramadura, derived from the term "muchacha" 😉

In short, the Atxa restaurant invites you to discover the harmonious fusion of past and present, offering an exceptional culinary experience in a beautifully preserved historic setting.
